One thing that is really surprising about all the events going on in the world is that my anxiety is not climbing.
There could be a few reasons why this situation isn’t affecting me more:
- I already live with a heightened state of awareness due to my anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, and this is just one more danger added to my everyday life.
- I know that despite the rapid increase we are seeing in Alberta, the risk remains quite low for the majority of people.
- I know that the majority -but not all- of the cases reported in the province are connected to travel internationally.
- With my past experience working in healthcare, I know how to check symptomology, and I know the difference between needing to lay low at home versus requiring medical attention.
The fact. of the matter is, the world is a mess right now, and further panic will not help matters any. It will actually only add fuel to the fire.
Right now being calm and listening to the direction of public health services is the best way for the majority of people to get through this mess unscathed. In my opinion there is not reason to panic, yet. If we practice proper hygiene, social distancing, and keep our forays into public to a minimum, this damn bug will burn itself out with nothing but some inconvenience to us all.
