The human body is an incredible machine. The complexity of it boggles the mind. It can heal. It can filter what we put into it. It can remember.
I’m not just talking about cognitive memory. The fact that we can learn from the past and use it to guide our future decisions is amazing. The brain isn’t the only the part of our body that remembers though. Our muscles remember as well. It’s why we can perform actions often repeated with little thought,
The other thing with muscles is once you’ve achieved a level of strength, even if you lose it, it takes less time to get back there. Today is day three of my new fitness program and I am already feeling the improvements with each cardio session.
Tuesday, I was barely able to do a mile at a decent pace.
Wednesday showed modest gains.
Today? I did just under a mile and a half without feeling like I wanted to die. It will take some time, but I know if I work at it, watch my diet, and push myself I will be able to hit a sub 20 minute mile pace. I know I’ve been there before.
I’m already feeling the benefits of this sweat equity. My mind has felt clearer. My energy level has been higher.
Unfortunately, there is a fly in the ointment; my damn shoulder is bugging me a bit yet, but it will take time, and I have been neglecting the strengthening exercises given to me by my physio.
Going forward, I’m going to be doing long cardio sessions 3 days a week, and shorter cardio and strength training the other 3, with Sundays off. I’m hoping that by putting it on here, it will keep me motivated not to slack off.
